A case of the Mondays

Mondays are not usually my most favorite days.  They never have been.  Yesterday was no exception.
We are still in full swing trying to adjust to our new schedule around here.  Chloe is finished with Kindergarten, Daddy is working evenings now, Mommy's working (outside the home) Daddy is taking a hand at the Mr. Mom thing...you know all a chapter in our crazy unique world.
Chloe is attending a Safety Summer Camp.  It is two hours a day for two weeks.  She is learning all sorts of great information about being a Safe Kid.  Fire safety, gun safety, stranger danger, bike safety...you name it.  If there is safety behind it, there are teaching it.  My good friend is one of the police officers who runs the camp.  So she's in good hands of course.
It was a crazy afternoon (as always) when I arrived home.  Matt was getting ready for work, the house looks like an F6 went through, beauties are crabbing because they refuse to take a nap anymore.  I was in the process of cleaning up that F5...and Farrah screamed out in shrieking pain!  She came running into the kitchen, blood everywhere.  Stuart (one of the new gerbils) had bitten her on the bottom lip.  Let's just say, he got her good.  She was so upset that Stuart would bite her and so upset that there was blood everywhere.
After a good thirty minutes, it still would not stop bleeding, so I decided it would make sense to take her to the ER to have it looked at.  Just in case she needed a stitch.  Yes, I am that Mom that just has to be sure.  I cannot help it, I worry.
We arrived at the ER and they took her right back.  Said that the cut was deep, but since the majority of it was on her lip, and not on the skin under it, they could do a stitch, but that it would probably do more harm than good to put her through it.  So we opted out of the stitch.  The doctors said that mouth would rarely take on an infection and that they heal rather quickly.  That said, since it was a bite from an animal, they felt a 7 day course of antibiotics would be a good idea.  They also assured me they were not worried about the bite in general, just being cautious.
Farrah was a trooper, she let the doc cleaned the would with a saline wash.  No tears.
After picking up her prescription, we headed home to find that little Stuart had passed.  When I asked Farrah what had happened, she said she tried to give Stuart a "kiss" then the bite took place.  I asked her what happened after Stuart bit her and she replied, "I squeezed him."  Poor Farrah, she is so sweet and gentle and would never hurt ANY animal.  That being said I have a strong suspicion that Farrah may be the cause to Stuart demise.  Poor Stuart.
We added to our backyard "Pet Cemetery" and held a small "gerbil service."  Brought tears to my eyes when each beauty took a turn telling Stuart to "rest in peace."  Bless their little hearts.
We concluded the evening with baths and kisses and several "extra" tuck-ins.
Good night Monday.

Benny and Stuart

Last Monday was a difficult day with a happy ending. Chloe came home from school. Happy as usual of course. As she walked into the kitchen, she noticed immediately that the hamster cage was not there. "Where's Jasmin?" Earlier that day...I realized I had not seen Jazmin in the wheel as I always do at various time throughout the day. When I opened the cage, a wave of a horribly distinct smell came out. Jasmin had passed. Matt and I decided to bury her. We discussed for some time what to do. We finally agreed that it may be more traumatising for Chloe to see her hamster dead. So we buried her. Thinking we would have a little prayer service that evening. Wrong. Chloe wanted to see her dead hamster and tell her goodbye. Great we are terrible parents. She wanted to dig her up. After some time, I convinced her that we should not dig her up. During this convincing, I some how agreed to get her a new hamster. Man she knows how to play on Mommy's soft side. Mood improved 90 percent. As we entered the pet store, mood upgrade to 100 percent normal. As we picked up and met some of the different hamsters, some how I ended up agreeing to two. Hmmm. How did that happen? She was tickled pink. Benny and Stuart she would name them. Welcome home Benny and Stuart. May you live long and happy lives.

How much is that doggy in the window?

Chloe and I made a trip to Petland tonight. She loves to go there and look at the hamsters. We had to get a new water bottle for Bella's cage. Hers is leaking and I am so afraid she is going to drown in the puddle. After getting the new H2O dispenser, Chloe decided she wanted to check out the puppies. She has been really into doggies ever since seeing the movie Beverly Hills Chihuahua. (It is a cute movie if you haven't seen it.) I agreed and we visited each one through the Plexi-glass windows. Just as we were getting ready to say our goodbyes, she saw another customers go into one of the petting rooms with a puppy. She peered up with those huge baby blues and said, "oh, Mommy, can we hold a puppy?" How could I say no to that? The first one was a Weimariner (sp)...ummm so stinking cute. Matt and I had one before Chloe was born...little Shelby. Sweet doggie, but not so smart. Chloe loved her. She loved Chloe...time to put her back. Then she spotted a Dachshund, she had to play with that one too, because it is a little dog "that could wear clothes." I agreed again. A few minutes turned into twenty and I finally convinced er the doggie probably had to poop and she better go back to her cage. Chloe sadly agreed. She really loves dogs...maybe someday Chloe, but these days Mommy has enough poop to clean up.

A New Addition to our Home...

Welcome our new addition! No, you crazy people...I am not pregnant, are you nuts!? Chloe has a Baby Hamster. Her name is "Belle". Belle is a dwarf hamster. She is very tame and loves to be held. She is grey and brown with a black stripe down her back. Her full name is "Belle Cinderella". Chloe is enjoying playing with her, feeding her and watching her run in her exercise ball. However, Chloe does not like the way her feet feel. She will only hold her in her lap, not in her hands yet. But she says she will soon. She pets her back and face, but not her feet. Jocelyn, Farrah and especially Silvie love her too! They want to hold her, feet and all. We think Jocelyn would really like to hug her to death...literally! They screech with excitement when we take her out of the cage. They pet her "gently" and want to grab her. They even try to kiss her. It's really cute to see all 4 girls crowded around her.
She is very sweet and makes a great addition to the Hendricks Family. Oh, by the way...yep another girl in the family! Sorry Matty.
